My name is Gwen Howard and I live in Pakefield, Lowestoft, Suffolk, UK, with my husband and one year old boy. I run Shalamar Holistic Therapy http://www.ShalamarHolisticTherapy.co.uk, specialising in Aromatherapy, Reflexology, Reiki, Indian Head Massage, and teaching Mindfulness. I am currently on maternity leave, but plan to be up and running again soon.
After school I started with a degree in Zoology from the University of Bristol, but have since changed direction and gone on to take a Certificate in Counseling skills from the University of East Anglia, a Certificate in Permaculture Design, RHS Horticulture, and have recently completed my Complementary Therapy Qualifications.
I am passionate about meditation, especially Mindfulness, and have been on various Vipassana retreats around the world, including spending a few months in Thailand at Doi Suthep. I have also been lucky enough to spend time travelling around Europe, Asia, and Australasia. And I have been especially inspired by Asian and other traditional child rearing practices.
I also am very interested in nutrition, the organic movement and Permaculture. Recently I have come across Weston A Price’s work; studying diets within traditional societies around the world. This has changed my way of thinking, and I hope to share some of this knowledge.
I have previously worked within the Wholefood and Horticulture industry’s, but am now focused on Holistic Therapies and Mindfulness. I am planning to specialise in fertility, pregnancy, and new mother treatments.
I have started this website as it is my current soul’s calling, and is something I would have found useful when entering motherhood. Breastfeeding has also given me a lot of reading time, and I would like to share some of what I have discovered! I hope I can inspire, and let you know you are not alone! x
